Aiming High

A different style of AS/A Level text books that have been incredibly successful

4 books

Aiming High was developed in the classroom by Barbara Young, working with the students of Tarporley High School, a non-selective comprehensive in Cheshire.

Each Aiming High text:

  • develops understanding and good mathematical practice.
  • is accessible to weaker students but also contains plenty of material to stretch able students.
  • allows able students to forge ahead  at their own pace, if they wish to.
  • raises the attainment of ALL students, from the outstandingly able to the ‘don’t want to knows’.
  • has been developed in the classroom with the active help of sixth form students.
  • has been developed using a structured approach

Each text contains everything a student needs:

  • clear waffle-free explanations.
  • plenty of examples.
  • basic technique practice exercises leading up to questions of examination standard.
  • a large bank of AS/A Level Exam revision questions at the end of each text with answers (plus a COPYMASTER booklet of model answers in the Teacher’s Resource and Assessment Pack).

Each text:

  • has been developed using a structured approach
  • is excellent as a STANDARD TEXT BOOK.
  • can be used as a FLEXIBLE LEARNING COURSE.

Problem: Students enjoyed working with The 'Maths is...' Jugglers texts so much that parents complained that they were doing much more maths than had been set for homework and not leaving enough time for other homework.

Solution: Students were told that they should complete their other set homework before doing their maths.
